When the Lord Jesus Christ gave us our purpose as His church in this world, He said in Matthew 28:19-20, "Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you, and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age."
Baptism is an act of public confession. The Bible says in Romans 10:9, "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." As a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ we live with Him as Lord. Baptism, though, is that key public moment when, before heaven and earth, we declare Jesus is our Lord and Savior.
Before being baptized, each person will respond to the following questions:
- Do you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross as the perfect substitute for your sin?
- Do you believe that He rose from the dead on the third day?
- Are you trusting Him fully for the forgiveness of your sins?
- Have you committed your life to Him as your Savior and Lord?
- By the help that He gives, will you follow Him for the rest of your life?
Baptism is a tremendous public witness. Romans 6:3-4 states, "Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life."
As the person is immersed in the water at baptism, the person is demonstrating that they have been personally identified with the death of Christ on the cross for sin. Their sin and judgment has been buried with Christ. As the person emerges from the water, they are showing that just as Jesus rose from the grave, so His resurrected life is now alive in them.
If you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior, we encourage you to follow Christ's command to be baptized (Matthew 28:18-20). If you are interested in being baptized, or have questions regarding water baptism, please contact
