Dr. Sean McDowell, son of legendary evangelist and author Josh McDowell, will kick off a line-up of inspiring speakers, all in the Worship Center. This exciting day will be complemented by great worship, designed to help us stand undivided in our mission to share Jesus with the world. KEYNOTE - Dr. Sean McDowell is a gifted communicator with a passion for equipping the church, and in particular young people, to make the case for the Christian faith. He connects with audiences in a tangible way through humor and stories while imparting hard evidence and logical support for viewing all areas of life through a Biblical worldview. Sean is an Assistant Professor in the Christian Apologetics program at Biola University, and is the Resident Scholar for Summit California.
Labib Madanat served as Executive Director of the Palestinian Bible Society from 1993 to 2007, and since that time has been serving as Coordinator of the Israeli and Palestinian Bible Societies. Labib was born to Jordanian parents, ministers in Old City, Jerusalem with the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. As a graduate of Mosul University in Iraq, Labib was a firsthand witness to the country's war with Iran at the time. The many scenes of bloodshed broke his heart and stirred in him a growing burden for the Muslim people.
Danielle Strickland's aggressive compassion has loved people firsthand in countries all over the world where she has embraced, learned, cared, evangelized, taught, and exhorted individuals and crowds to surrender to the boundless love of our great God and Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. She loves the more fragile in communities around the world, and works to rescue those caught up in drugs, homelessness, prostitution and despair by working to change laws and practices to end human trafficking. Strickland is a Major in The Salvation Army. She is the author of five books: Just Imagine: the Social Justice Agenda; Challenging Evil: Dispatches from the Frontlines of Radical Justice; A Beautiful Mess: How God Recreates Our Lives; and Boundless: Living Life in Overflow.
Paul Borthwick serves on the staff of Development Associates International, a training group dedicated to the character and ministry development of leaders in the under-resourced world. In 2015, Paul concluded over 30 years of teaching at Gordon College in the area of Global Christianity. He also served as an Urbana/Missions Associate with Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship from 1999-2015.
Our Weekend Pulpit Speaker: Al Tizon
Al Tizon is Executive Minister of Serve Globally, the international ministries arm of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Chicago, IL. This position includes a faculty appointment as Affiliate Associate Professor of Missional and Global Leadership at North Park Theological Seminary also in Chicago.
He received his B.A. and M.A. in Religious Educational and Church Leadership Studies from Vanguard University of Southern California in Costa Mesa, CA and his Ph.D. in missiology from the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley, CA. He and his family engaged in community development work, ministry to street children, and pastoral ministries among the poor in his native Philippines for almost ten years as missionaries with an international mission sending agency called Action International Ministries.
An ordained minister of the Evangelical Covenant Church, Al served several churches in both the Philippines and the United States as associate and interim pastor for seven years and as lead pastor for five.
Al is the author of Transformation After Lausanne: Radical Evangelical Mission in Global-Local Perspective; co-author of Linking Arms, Linking Lives: How Urban-Suburban Partnerships Can Transform Communities; Missional Preaching: Embrace, Engage, Transform: and co-editor of Honoring the Generations: Learning with Asian North American Congregations.
