Wouldn’t you love to have a "spiritual" growth spurt this year? One way you can experience spiritual growth is through one-to-one discipleship. The word "disciple" comes from a Greek word that means "apprentice" as in "one who learns by doing." Therefore, One-to-one discipleship is when one Christian takes another Christian under his/her care in order to help that person become an "apprentice" of Jesus Christ and to experience spiritual growth by learning and doing (see James 1:22-23).
Discipleship is more than just teaching someone some facts about the Bible. Discipleship means encouraging, supporting, and praying daily for the person being discipled. Discipleship means spending time with the other person -- sharing meals, discussing problems, serving others, and going with them to witness to unbelievers in the neighborhood. Discipleship means nothing less than walking together side-by-side and growing together in the Lord. As the apostle Paul said in 1 Thessalonians 2:8, "We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us."
In our One-to-One discipleship process, you will receive training in 13 key areas of the Christian life. In addition, you will learn how to pass these skills on to someone else.

THE DIVINE PATTERN FOR DISCIPLESHIPWhat we need today perhaps more than ever before is an authentic, definitive pattern to follow. We need a flesh-and blood demonstration of exactly what discipleship is all about. That is precisely what we have in the Incarnation of the Son of God. His coming is the pattern for our going; his mission the definition of our own. "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you" John 20:21. "As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified" John 17:18-19. Understanding discipleship is in fact understanding the mind of Christ, and practicing discipleship is following the footprints of Jesus. We are on the right track, therefore, when we define the demands of discipleship not in terms of what we think or feel but in terms of what the Cross meant to Jesus. In Him is God's pattern for discipleship. In Him is the start and the finish of our faith Hebrews 12:2.
